Greater Lincolnshire Manufacturing Conference 2024
On 8th March, the Manufacturing sector in Lincolnshire came together to discuss Artificial Intelligence, B Corp and skills training at the annual Greater Lincolnshire & Rutland Manufacturing conference. The day was packed full of presentations, information sharing and networking.
Gusto Group Chairman, Steff Wright, and Sustainability Manager, Jasmin Wright, had a speaking slot on the day to discuss Rototek’s recent B Corp Certification and the benefits and challenges involved in the certification process.
Steff begun the session by asking the audience via a poll ‘how do you view Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)?’, with their two answers options being ‘a complicated distraction & additional business cost’ or ‘adding value to your business’. Around 60% of the audience answered positively, saying they viewed ESG as adding value to their business, which was a great place to start the session.
Jasmin then talked through Rototek’s journey to B Corp Certification and the changes made within the business throughout the process, including formalising and implementing policies, improving employee benefits, measuring our carbon footprint and engaging with our supply chain. She didn’t shy away from talking about the challenges involved too - Rototek operate in a controversial industry which rightfully meant additional questioning throughout the certification process.
Steff then shared Rototek’s mission, ‘shaping the future through technical innovation to provide our partners with a more sustainable manufacturing service’, and why Rototek pursued B Corp Certification. The certification ensures the business is committing to continual improvement, aligns with our values and protects the mission for the long term through updating the business’ Articles of Association.
At the end of the session, Steff asked the audience a second question via the poll ‘how do you now view the business benefit of investing in ESG?’, with the majority of the audience responding with ‘a worthwhile investment for people, planet & profit’ and only two audience members responding with ‘no real value’. The session had a big impact and we think it is really important to share knowledge around ESG so the industry as a whole can positively transition towards a Net-Zero future.
