Celebrating our female employees
This International Women's Day and World Engineering Day, we are celebrating the incredible women who contribute to our success. We're more than just a global leader in technical rotational moulding of plastics - we're a community built on innovation and dedication. Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to of our remarkable female team members, as they share their experiences, insights, and perspectives in a candid Q&A, highlighting the vital role women play at Rototek and beyond.
What inspired you to join Rototek?
Lauren: “I wanted to further my career in administration and build on my passion for customer service, and I knew that Rototek could help me do this.”
Jo: “I joined Rototek at 16 years old to complete my Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration. I loved the business and have stayed here ever since.”
What does your typical day/week look like at Rototek?
Kirsty: “Every day is completely different, as you are never working on the same project. I like to work to the deadlines, so I have structure in my day. However, I like that there is variation to the work, so I never get bored!”
Linda: “As a HR Manager at Rototek, no two days are ever the same. There are always different scenarios in the role.”
Lauren: “My typical day at Rototek consists of answering phone calls and taking enquiries from potential customers, attending to any visitors who enter reception, inputting any new orders onto our system, completing delivery notes and invoicing.”
Jo: “My typical day includes speaking to customers regarding their current orders, booking in transport and invoicing. My main priority every day is keeping our customers happy.”
What challenges have you faced as a woman in this industry, and how have you overcome them?
Kirsty: “A challenge when starting any new job is you’ve got new skills to learn, and new people to get to know. I will say, some of the machinery was daunting at first, but I am confident and comfortable to use this now.”
What do you find most rewarding about working at Rototek?
Kirsty: “I enjoy getting the projects out to a high standard. It’s rewarding to look at how a product comes off the machine and comparing it to when it’s been cleaned up and ready to be shipped. It is amazing. I feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment.”
Linda: “I find it rewarding when the team successfully contribute to company projects, which sometimes includes helping the local community. I also appreciate the fact that we always get recognition when jobs are done to a high standard.”
Lauren: “Certainly having a nice and positive working environment. Everyone here is so lovely, and I love that!”
Jo: “I love knowing that my work is helping others, it’s so rewarding. I thrive on providing a high-level of customer service and contributing to Rototek’s success.”
What advice would you give to young women considering a career in manufacturing/engineering, or even here at Rototek?
Kirsty: “I would say, certainly bite the bullet and do it! It’s important not listen to stereotypes and negative comments. If it's what you want to do and you love doing it, then go for it. I can honestly say, this is the happiest I have ever been in a job!”
Lauren: “Go for it! Especially here at Rototek, we pride ourselves in accommodating everyone.”
Jo: “The manufacturing industry may seem intimidating at first, but there is a lot to learn and grow from. I would say, embrace the opportunity to learn new technical skills and hands-on experience. Whether it’s machinery, processes or systems, don’t be afraid to ask questions and keep on learning. The more you learn, the more confident and valuable you become.”
How do you see the future of women in manufacturing and engineering?
Kirsty: “I think that more women are going to get into the industry and an increase will definitely happen. People are now much less likely to confine to stereotypes and jobs now aren’t seen as ‘jobs for men’ and ‘jobs for women.”
Jo: “Manufacturing has historically been a male-dominated industry, but that is changing! There’s a possibility that people may doubt your abilities because of your gender, but I believe that’s becoming less and less the case as time goes on. Everyone’s unique perspective is an asset, and their contributions matter just as much as anyone else's, regardless of gender.”
We are immensely proud of our female employees at Rototek. Their contributions are invaluable, and we celebrate their achievements not only for International Women's Day and World Engineering Day, but every day!
